The project

The Smart Cities Information System collected data from EU co-funded smart city demonstration projects — FP6, FP7 and Horizon 2020 — into one database, so that performance could be monitored, findings compared, and policy for future cities grounded in evidence. Its work was later carried forward into today's Smart Cities Marketplace.

The challenge

Dozens of demonstration projects were producing results in incompatible formats and separate places. The challenge was as much structural as editorial: knowledge had to be organised, made searchable and communicated so that projects, cities and policymakers could actually use it.
