Building the communication and digital identity of Europe's first AI-on-demand ecosystem
The AI4EU project was established to build the first European Artificial Intelligence On-Demand Platform and Ecosystem with the support of the European Commission under the H2020 programme.
The main goal of the project is to design an AI on-Demand Platform to share AI resources produced in European projects, including high-level services, expertise in AI research and innovation, AI components and datasets, high-powered computing resources and access to seed funding for innovative projects using the platform.
PROGRAMME / FUNDING: Horizon 2020 · Grant Agreement No. 825619
TOTAL PROJECT BUDGET: €20.6M · EU contribution €20M
DURATION: 2019–2021
Themes: AI & Digital transformation; Technology communication; Digital platforms; European innovation; Brand & visual communication; Stakeholder engagement
TWNTY ROLE: Communication & Dissemination Strategy · Platform & Web design · Visual identity · Event Strategy
The project
AI4EU built the first European AI-on-demand platform: a shared environment where researchers, startups, SMEs and industry could find AI tools, components, datasets, expertise, computing resources seed funding and innovation support produced across European projects, alongside industry pilots, research on trustworthy AI and a European Ethical Observatory with the broader European ecosystem around the platform. The platform outlived its project and is live today as the European AI-on-Demand platform (AIoD).
The challenge
Europe’s AI landscape was highly fragmented across research organisations, technology companies, startups, SMEs and policymakers. AI4EU therefore needed more than project promotion: it needed a recognisable European identity and a communication system capable of bringing audiences with very different levels of technical expertise around one digital ecosystem.
How TWNTY approached it
Strategy. TWNTY was responsible for the overall communication and dissemination strategy, covering internal stakeholder communication as well as external channels and audience pathways.
Launch and events. Together with UCC, we developed the event strategy and planned promotion around the 2019 launch at Palais de Tokyo in Paris, connecting online and offline communication - from YouTube formats to event-linked campaigns.
Design and digital experience. We designed the platform and website, set the visual identity guidelines and produced a full range of promotional materials so that messaging, brand and digital experience supported one recognisable European AI proposition.
