The project
The Energy Research Knowledge Centre compiled the first comprehensive overview of energy research programmes at the national and European level, together with a directory of funding organisations. Its Compendium became a primary information source for energy research policymakers and research managers - a single reference on how energy research is funded across Europe. The ERKC database was later integrated into the SCIS and Smart Cities Marketplace.
The challenge
Energy research funding was documented in fragments across dozens of national systems. The challenge was to communicate a specialist mapping exercise so that policymakers and research managers would find it, trust it and use it.
